I graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2000 with a BA in Anthropology and a minor in German. How I ended up in the digital side of media & entertainment still boggles my mind.
What I Can Do Better
- Slow down: I have a tendency to speed through things. I have a mild form of dyslexia in which I tend to meld words from adjacent lines in sentences together as I read them, often distorting the true meaning of a composition. I find if I read very slowly, this does not happen.
- Get more rest: I’ve always been a night owl. Yet I need to get up early for work. I try to fit so much into my day that I sometimes feel sleep is a waste of time, though I know that not to be true. As such, I need to make time to sleep so I can stay sharp and focused.
- Learn to say ‘no’: I often take on tasks even though I know it’s not possible to get them done timely. I’m asked, therefore, I do. This leads to, “Why isn’t this done??” I need to be able to better identify a situation in which saying ‘no’ would benefit me and the other party.
- Stop thinking too hard: For just about any task, I believe I put too much thought into it. So much so, that it can take up to ten times longer than it really should. Simple tasks such as writing an email response can become difficult because I find the need to word everything perfectly and triple check what I’m saying.
